The soft glow of gas lamps gently illuminating the night of the City of Trees
In 1987, to commemorate the opening of the Sendai City Subway Namboku Line, 117 gas lamps were installed along Aoba-dori Avenue and Higashi Gobancho-dori Avenue.Now, 87 lamps cast a warm glow, earning the nickname "Gobancho, the Gas Lamp District."Lighting inspired by those gas lamps envelops the east-west free passage and souvenir shop in a soft lemon hue.
